Hi Reader,

For the past few months I've been working behind the scenes on a website redesign, one that is more user-friendly and makes it easier to find things on the site.

And it's now LIVE! It just went up this week and my developer and I have been tweaking and fixing things the past few days so I could announce it today. 😀

I hope you will visit An Oregon Cottage homepage here, poke around a bit to see how the new searches work - if you can see above, there's a top bar where you can browse by diet, ingredient, protein and more, as well as categories to choose from (and even by courses when you scroll further). I'd love to hear what you think!

I wanted to highlight a few things I'm happy about that I hope will be useful to you:

From the top "browse by" bar, each section has a drop-down menu you can choose from. In the above example, I've chosen seafood recipes under Protein from the homepage (this browse bar is on every page though) and that brings up all my seafood recipes in an easy-to-scroll format!

No more just scrolling through the full recipe index to find what you want!

There are also drop-down menus from the upper navigation bar that hold my main categories so you can choose to search that way too.

BUT if you'd like to see a bit more, click on the main category - the area I have circled above - and you will be taken to a totally new page that highlights different things you'll find in that category! (This is probably my favorite part of the new design 💜)

Here's a tiny look at the four main categories (the Shop button takes you to my Shopify shop as usual):

Top left is the recipes index, top right is the page for canning and preserving, bottom right is the DIY & gifts page, and the bottom left is for all things gardening.

You can scroll down each one and find hopefully just what you're looking for! 😀

Again, I'm super excited to have this done and be able to share with you - it's been my goal to make the site more user-friendly for awhile and I hope we've accomplished that!

Quick Seafood Dinners

All seafood cooks quickly, so it naturally lends itself to quick and easy meals!

Tuna Salad with Artichokes, Olives & Feta

Amp up your tuna salad with this vinaigrette based recipe full of flavor! Serve on a bed of lettuce or spinach with a side of pita chips and hummus.

Lemon Vegetable Fish Packets (Bake or Grill)

So quick to make and cook! I serve this with rice or bread and a salad.

Crispy Tuna Patty Mediterranean Pita Board

A perfect low-cook summer meal option where everyone gets to put together their own pita.

30 Minute Garlic Shrimp & Green Bean Pasta

One of my favs, especially when the fresh green beans are coming on! (I up the protein by using Banza chickpea pasta.😀)

Head's Up

Did you miss this last week?

I've put all my easy tips (no, you don't have to blanch everything) into this cookbook about Freezing Produce The Easy Way!

If you're interested, you have two choices:

  1. The Digital Version: an immediate download to use on your phone, tablet, or computer.
  2. Coil-Bound, Printed Version: this will be printed on demand and shipped to your home in a few weeks.

If you've purchased this, I'd love to hear what you think and how you've used it. My hope is that it will be a super helpful resource for you to refer to year after year!

A Few More Things

I saw "Fly Me To The Moon" this week with my mom and it was really cute! Just a lighthearted movie that pokes fun at marketing, selling, and the idea that the moon landing isn't real. There was very little swearing, no violence, and just a chaste kiss - the rest of the movie focused on telling the actual story (what a concept - no long, drawn out chase scenes 😂). Really recommend if you're looking for a movie like this to see!

Some of you may remember that we have a lot of tile in our bathroom - and I made the mistake of using a light gray grout which tends to attract that orangey mold stuff. I've tried a lot of natural/better for the environment cleaners and nothing has worked - until I tried 12% hydrogen peroxide. I read that it's safe for septic systems when used as a cleaner (source) and it's really been working to keep the grout looking fresh!

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Today we've got sun for the first time in a few days, but the high is only going to be 73. So I can't deny it any longer - summer is gone. 😞 So what's a summer girl to do? I know, let's start a new outdoor project, quick before...

So.many.things. are coming in from the garden or can be had at farm stands the cheapest you'll see them. Tomatoes, corn, green beans, zucchini, basil, peppers - lots of my favorite recipes taste best with these fresh right now (details in this month's menu!). I've even been grabbing a...
